Buddy Holly Tribute Albums To Be Released This Year
Posted by Tyler Mills in Music
Buddy Holly was a legendary musical figure who died far too early in life. Buddy Holly inspired groups such as the Rolling Stones, the Beatles and Orleans. Buddy Holly is a man who has been honored many times since his death. There are even dueling tribute albums coming out to commemorate the anniversary of Buddy Holly’s seventy fifth birthday this year. Stevie Nicks, Jackson Browne and others are scheduled to appear on one of the tribute albums. “Listen to Me: Buddy Holly” is a tribute album that will come out on September 6th, 2011.
Paul McCartney is planning to be a part of a second tribute album for Buddy Holly. I personally find it hard to believe that the album with Paul McCartney on it wouldn’t draw bigger stars just because people want to say they were on a album with Paul NcCartney.
Paul McCartney has been known to pay homage to important musical stars in history that came before him. Kid Rock is expected to contribute to the same Buddy Holly tribute album with Paul McCartney. Kid Rock has been known to work on a wide variety of different side projects in the past. “Rave on Buddy Holly” is the name of the tribute album that McCartney will be appearing on.
The most famous tribute to Holly may be the song “American Pie” by Don McLean. Holly’s widow Maria who owns the rights to Buddy Holly’s music also does what she can to promote the work of her husband. In my personal view, it is too bad that Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead is not alive to perform on “Not Fade Away”
Ringo Starr who is also expected to be on the tribute album was quoted as saying that Buddy Holly is one of the top ten greatest stars in Rock and Roll history.
The proceeds from Listen to Me will end up going to the Grammy Foundation which helps give young artists a chance to progress in their musical endeavors.
