Daniel Craig in 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'?

Although the next James Bond movie has been shelved due to MGM’s financial issues, Daniel Craig (Quantum of Solace) seems unworried. While currently starring in Jon Favreau’s sci-fi western Cowboys and Aliens, he is reportedly going on negotiations to star in the Hollywood remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

If rumors are to be trusted, Craig may work with David Fincher on the much-anticipated Hollywood adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, the first film in a planned trilogy based on Stieg Larsson’s worlwide, best-selling literary franchise.

Craig is said to be playing the role of disgraced journalist and amateur sleuth Mikael Blomkvist in the Swedish mystery flick that revolves around the unsolved disappearance of an heiress.

Carey Mulligan’s name has been heavily mentioned for the role of hacker-savant Lisbeth Salander.

Brad Pitt, who has worked with Fincher previously on the Fight Club and The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, had also been linked to the project.

Meanwhile, Columbia Pictures, which will produce and distribute the film, claims not to have offered the roles to anyone yet.

Despite fan protests that Dragon Tattoo shouldn’t be remade in English, Fincher and screenwriter Steve Zaillian insist they have a different approach to the project.
