Warrant arrest has been issued for Albert Haynesworth, defensive lineman of the Washington Redskins, because of an alleged road rage incident in Fairfax County, Virginia.

According to police spokeswoman Shelley Broderick, though Haynesworth has not been formally charged, a warrant for simple assault has been issued. She said a 38-year-old man told investigators he was assaulted by a person after an incident hear Washington on Wednesday. This person was later identified as Haynesworth.

The man told the police he saw a pickup truck tailgating him. He gestured at the driver of the truck and when the two vehicles stopped for a red light, the truck driver allegedly got out of his vehicle and assaulted the other driver upon an exchange of words.

The victim, who had minor injuries, rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Chad Speck, Haynesworth’s agent, said the football player “looks forward to his day in court to refute these ridiculous allegations”.

“If contacted by the authorities, Albert will certainly cooperate in any way. This man, who actually provoked the situation himself, recognized Albert and is now simply trying to turn it into his 15 minutes of fame and get, we can only assume, some money.”

This is not the first traffic incident involving Haynesworth. In December 2008, he was placed on a 30-day probation after pleading guilty to driving 103 mph in a 70-mph zone south of Nashville.
