Posted by Tyler Mills in Music

Neil Young is a musical artist who has crossed over to the film genre on several different occasions. The concert film is something that many fans consider to be a more intimate portrait of a given artist. Neil has teamed up with director Jonathan Demme on several different occasions in order to create film magic that people will truly end up enjoying. Demme was also the director for “Neil Young: Heart of Gold.” In his latest concert film “Journeys” Young talks about growing up in Omemee, Ontario; Ontario tourism boards are also big fans of Neil’s music.

Neil talks about how much his life has changed and how much the area has changed. The concept of keeping these memories in your heart and mind is something that Neil talks about in the film.
Neil Young has always been good for an interview when you speak about issues that he wants to talk about. He has not shied away from controversial topics such as his views on Middle East policy and the need for a more environmentally aware society. I have seen Neil Young caught off guard by a few questions, he seemed genuinely uncomfortable when Charlie Rose of PBS was seemingly asking him to give a retrospective on his career. Neil Young is not going to be caught off guard by any material in Journeys because he has a long standing friendship with Demme.

Fans of Neil Young have to value the workaholic nature of a man who is nearly sixty six years old. It is important to Neil that he stay busy and try to communicate with as many fans as he can so they can carry on his message of awareness when he passes away. Demme is known for films such as Silence of the Lambs, Man from Plains, Philadelphia and Swing Shift. Demme is an Academy Award winning director.
