Pink Floyd: David Gilmour’s Son Leaves Jail

Posted by Tyler Mills in Television

Sometimes it can be a good thing for a band’s popularity to wane a little bit. A band who is merely just touring at this point as opposed to having number one singles hit the charts is not likely going to have a lot of trouble dealing with controversy. The fact that David Gilmour’s son was able to get arrested without much coverage in the press may be a good sign that Pink Floyd may not be as popular as they once were; Pink Floyd has released a recent greatest hits album. An arrest associated with Pink Floyd in the 1970’s would have been all over the tabloids.
The truth of the matter is that Charlie Gilmour, David Gilmour’s son can just go about his business and hopefully get past this incident. Gilmour was arrested during a protest over tuition hikes in the United Kingdom. Gilmour threw things at different officers and was convicted of violent conduct. He had to serve a four month sentence, this sounds fairly severe for a protest related crime, but he was in a way putting officers in danger.

The positive way to look at some of these protests is to say that property can actually be improved because of some of the destruction that was caused by the protests. A number of construction firms are probably quite happy with the fact that they were able to obtain such work. It is a rather cool story to hear that the son of a Pink Floyd band member was involved in a protest of political consequence.

Reports had Gilmour as being high on LSD at the time of the arrest. I would hope that the fact that Gilmour was high is the logic associated with the long sentence associated with the arrest, A person can debate whether it was the right choice for people to go as far as they did during the tuition protests, but there has to be people out there fighting for what they believe in every once in a while.
