She 'Can't be Tamed'.
Remember when you first saw the television trailer of Hannah Montana five years ago on Disney Channel? Remember the 12-year-old girl playing the lead role?
If you do, look at how she looks like now. If you don’t, just look up at her audition tape for Hannah Montana on YouTube. So far behind that frizzy-haired child actress who debuted in Disney as Miley Stewart by day and Hannah Montana by night. She’s Miley Cyrus, and now she ‘Can’t Be Tamed’.
Cyrus’ latest YouTube offering, her video for the title track off her album “Can’t Be Tamed,” involves a birdcage set that also serves as a pole-dancing playground, writhing background dancers and an outfit notable for its feathers and décolletage. One can conclude at first glance that she’s swimming her way to the murky waters of transition into an adult artist.
“I’m just at a certain place where I’ve changed a lot as a person,” 17-year-old Cyrus says. “I’ve grown up a lot, which everyone does.”
The prompt sales response to Cyrus’ new image appears to be encouraging. For the week ending May 23, the single’s first week of digital sales resulted in 191,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan, placing “Tamed” at No. 4 on Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs chart and No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also rose 35-28 with a bullet on Mainstream Top 40.
Amidst a lot of adverse reactions, no one can control the inevitable. The June 22 release of Miley Cyrus’ album “Can’t Be Tamed” is the most daring statement in a years-long process of evolving from the scrubbed cheeks and all-American girl charm of “Hannah Montana” to a modern pop diva.
