Steve Carell Going “Schizo” In FoxCatcher?
Posted by Tyler Mills in Celebrity
Steve Carell is trying to expand his horizons as an actor. Some people could see Steve Carell starting to attempt to be more than a comedian in Little Miss Sunshine. Steve Carell is someone who may be a bit tired of always playing the comedic lead. Carell is now going to try to play a schizophrenic in the film FoxCatcher. Studios are going to let Steve Carell take roles that may be outside the norm if he continues to draw significant box office numbers like he did in Get Smart. It is always hard to say how much people like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Anne Hathaway played in being able to attract such a large box office number of two hundred and thirty million.
Steve Carell was of course very successful on the show The Office and many people may consider it a career blunder for Carell to leave that show, but most sitcoms do not have that long of a shelf life.
Bennett Miller who also recently directed Moneyball is apparently going to direct FoxCatcher. I have heard mixed reviews regarding the film Moneyball, but it is hard to say how much of that blame you can put at Mr. Miller’s doorstep. Most of the bad reviews that I have head about the film come from true sports fans, people who may consider themselves to be baseball purists.
Filmmakers are willing to let people like Steve Carell work outside of the box as long as they do not get instantly tied to a bad project for the rest of their careers. I think it is fair to say that Steve Carell will go back to his bread and butter of comedic films if the foray into dramatic roles does not pan out. Carell’s guest appearances on The Daily Show even tend to draw very high ratings.
