The famed Bella jacket

Summit Entertainment, of the Twilight franchise, takes legal action against BB Dakota on Friday for selling a jacket advertised as being worn by Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart, without the studio’s consent.

The women’s fashion designer now faces copyright and trademark infringement charges. BB Dakota peddles a blue cotton canvas jacket this way through the company’s website: “Bella Swann (sic) wears this jacket in Twilight and scores the hottest vampire in high school, and so can you!” Much to the excitement of Twi-hards all over the cyberspace. Costume designer Wendy Chuck picked up the jacket in Nordstrom and made its first appearance in Twilight’s first film, when the blue jacket was chosen over the brown hoodie so as to match Stewart’s brown hair.

In the lawsuit, Summit not only seeks to ban further retail of the item; the studio wants BB Dakota to “deliver to Summit for destruction all Bella Jackets” as well.

Several statements have been made regarding the famed blue jacket in its 2008 debut. Women’s Wear Daily wrote about it as something “the stuff that legends are made of”, MTV’s website claimed it “brings you this much closer to Robert Pattinson”, Stylist.com called it “love at first bite, er, sight” whilst SoJones.com touted it as “very vampirelicious.”
