UFC 121 Results – Ortiz gets Dominated by his former student Matt Hamill

Student and Master met on the ring today as Tito Ortiz faced Matt Hamill on UFC 121. Matt Hamill was Tito Ortiz’ top pick back in on Hamill’s Ultimate Figher days. The interesting thing about this fight is the fact that both fighters know each other’s weaknesses. This fight will definitely come down to who had a much better preparation.

Round 1: This round definitely showed how much Ortiz has improved since having his back surgery. Tito threw leg kicks , and pushed the pace of the fight while Hamill countered with jabs and punch combos. Ortiz was the busier fighter of this round while Hamill was relegated to back up from his advances.

Round 2. This was one of the most intersting round of the fight. Hamill stepped up his game by being more aggressive and actually gunned for a take down a la Tito Ortiz. He was locking in the crucifix but on the process he dropped elbows punches and knees to the body that surely hurt his aging master. Hamill finished by ground and pound.

Round 3 – The third round started out much slower than the past two rounds. But it is very obvious that Ortiz definitely did not have much left in his tank as he acted the same way he did with Forrest Griffin on their second fight. Hamill on the other hand was very patiend in this round and methodically slipped jab after jab on Tito’s face. At the final minute of the third round Hamill took Tito down and gave him the same ground and pound that he taught him before.

Tito was not able to pull the trigger on any one of the rounds. Hamill fought like Tito Ortiz back when he was in his prime.

Matt Hamill wins the fight via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-28, 30-27).
