Angelina Jolie
We’ll see about that as reports surface that she could play the Queen of the Nile in a new biopic.
Schiff and Little, Brown publisher Michael Pietsch revealed that Stacy Schiff’s biography, Cleopatra: A Life, has just been optioned for a film adaptation by Oscar-winning producer Scott Rudin. And as reports have it, Rudin is currently eyeing Angelina Jolie to portray the title role saying that the movie “is being developed for and with Jolie.”
Undoubtedly, Cleopatra still counts as one of the most intriguing women in world history. She has long been a focus for film treatments, looking all the way back to the early silent era. In 1899, Georges Méliès made Cléopâtre, an early horror movie in which the Egyptian queen is shown as an awakened mummy. In 1963, Joseph L. Mankiewicz directed Cleopatra starring Elizabeth Taylor, who has the most famous portrayal of the queen by far. In the said movie, the Roman lover Mark Antony was played by Richard Burton, Taylor’s real-life hubby.
Which leads us to the question, so will Brad Pitt fit in Antony’s role? Brangelina followers sure are expecting.
Further developments are still ongoing, meanwhile, Cleopatra: A Life author Schiff approves of Jolie to fill the queen’s shoes. “Physically, she’s the perfect look,” she says.
